Official Opening of Ladurée Boutique and Tea Salon in Toronto
On Thursday, I attended the official opening of the Ladurée Boutique and Tea Salon in Yorkdale Mall. This is perhaps one of the most exciting things to happen in Toronto this December. This is the famous Patisserie’s third location to open in Canada. The other two are located kilometres away in Vancouver. I cannot begin to express my delight at knowing that I need not travel to the opposite end of the country to visit this luxury patisserie. Ladurée was founded in 1862 and is world famous.
The official opening was at noon. I decided to go a bit later on because I figured there would be far too many people, probably just as enthusiastic as I was, waiting to get in. I ended up being right. I watched Ladurée’s Instagram story (@laduréecanada) and saw that there was a long line of eager beavers waiting for it to open. I thought this was good because it meant that later on in the afternoon things would’ve hopefully cooled down (or so I thought).
By the time I got to Yorkdale Shopping Centre, it was about three pm, the line was just as long and ever growing. I quickly hopped in and began my wait. Moments later, when the line began to move forward, I felt my heartbeat begin to race in anticipation. I loved seeing that there were pairs of parents and siblings taking turns waiting in line. One would sit on some leather seats right beside us and then switch with the other when they had regained their strength. Thankfully the line moved forward at a moderate rate. I actually got to cut the line because a handsome young French gentleman, apparently some of the staff were hired from France, who worked in the Patisserie came down the line looking for people who were looking to sit down in the Salon. The jubilation I felt at finally entering the boutique is indescribable. The outside design of the boutique is exactly like the flagship that I’ve seen on the Champs-Élysées in Paris! Christmas came early for us Torontonians.
Upon entering, I was gobsmacked. The interior design is remarkable. I overheard other diners constantly remarking about how beautiful the boutique and salon were and taking several photos. I read that the Ladurée interior designers designed this new boutique. They certainly did a magnificent job. I really felt like I had, like Alice in Wonderland, stepped into a beautiful dream.
I loved seeing how colourful everything in the boutique was. I cannot wait to go back and pick up a few more things from the boutique. I also loved that walls were a soft pink. There was also plenty of gold everywhere. From the legs of the tables, the diamond patterns on the walls, the chandelier in the centre of the tea salon, the structure of the chairs to the borders on the plates, it was gold. I also loved the marble tables. The tiles were marble too but different because they featured a kind of abstract zigzag pattern.
Not long after I was seated, a waitress came by and delivered the stunning drink and food menu. The little one contained photos of the different flavours of macarons. Excitingly, the menu contains a ‘Maple Syrup Macaron’ which is exclusive to the Ladurée boutique in Yorkdale! The waitresses are so attentive and charming. They were constantly checking up on me and they always had smiles on their faces. They all wore these sleek black outfits and had their hair up in buns. I was just so impressed by their customer service, it really was meritorious.
Despite the fact that it was opening day and incredibly busy, the wait time for my food was not long at all. Everything was executed to perfection. I was elated when my order arrived at my table. I ordered the Marie Antoinette tea, four macarons, a madeleine and a smoked salmon sandwich. After taking several photos to share with you, my lovely reader, I took my first bite of the Madeleine. I didn’t even know it possible for a madeleine to be so delectable. It was the perfect temperature, nice and warm. In my first year of university, I wrote an entire essay about madeleines for a particular class I was taking (In case you’re wondering, I’m in an art school) and ever since then I’ve been obsessed with madeleines. I even bought myself a madeleine baking pan so I could try baking some myself. I can confidently confirm that these are the very best madeleines I have ever tasted!
The tea was phenomenal. It truly was the best tea I have had all year. The tea comes with a cute little chocolate. The salmon sandwich was just so delicious. Last of course were the macarons. I ordered a chocolate, vanilla, rose and coffee macaron. When I took my first bite, I felt like I went to heaven. The waitress tending to me then came to me smiling and nodding. She asked me how the first bite was. I wanted to laugh because knowing myself, I must’ve bit into it dramatically and closed my eyes to really enjoy it. Ha-ha.
Before I finish off, we need to talk about the bill... The bill comes inside a gorgeous card. At this point, I thought to myself, “Even the bill is pretty!”. After that, I wondered what paper the card was made of, obviously only the highest quality. Just when you think they can’t outdo themselves anymore, they do!
In my humble opinion, this is the best way to kick off the festive season. It’s a great way to spend a morning or afternoon with your sweetheart, sister, mother or friends. If you’re a Torontonian, this a must. If you’re a tourist visiting us here and braving the cold, then head over and warm yourself up with some tea and enjoy their famous macarons. Basically, this is a must for everyone.
I sincerely hope you enjoyed reading all about my little adventure to the heavenly Ladurée Boutique and Tea Salon. Be sure to head over and enjoy sitting down in the Salon and after you can buy yourself a few things in the boutique. I know I’ll be heading back shortly and leaving with that famous soft green Ladurée bag. Look out for it on my Instagram feed.
