July Bites in Toronto

July Bites in Toronto

Hello Dear Reader,

I’m still in utter disbelief at the fact that it’s already August! Did July even really happen? It doesn’t feel like it, haha.

When I scrolled through my photos I was reminded of all the delicious meals I ate throughout the swift month of July. I’m so excited to share with you the restaurants, patisseries and tea shops I most enjoyed.

Planta Queen

I spent the first day of July at Planta Queen, located on Queen Street West. It’s one of Planta’s newer restaurants that opened in Toronto. Like the Planta located in Yorkville, this is a more upscale restaurant.

The food is all Asian inspired and 100% plant-based!

I’ve been multiple times now and the food is exquisite. Without prior knowledge, I wouldn’t have known it’s all plant-based. Planta Queen is a gift.

The Rainbow roll

It has ahi watermelon, avocado, crispy mushroom and gochujang.

It was my first time trying the rainbow roll and I thought it was oh so delicious.

Forbidden Rice Pudding

The dessert consists of mango, coconut milk and vanilla ice cream. This is by far the best vegan dessert I’ve had at a restaurant. It was deliciously sweet. I loved the warm temperature of the rice and milk and eating it with the cold ice cream. This dish is a must!

MeNami

My friend and I happened to be in the North York area looking for a place to get some work done when she suggested we go to this restaurant she loves and was sure I would too. She was 100% right. I love it!

MeNami is located near Finch station on Yonge Street. The interior décor is rustic and the vibe inside is energetic and fun.

As we had just come from eating at a café, we decided to skip the appetizers and go straight for the main courses.

Salmon Cream Sauce Udon

This dish consists of a low temperature cooked Salmon, tomato oil, green onions, sesames seeds and shiso served with fresh cooked udon.

This dish was rich and so creamy. And the noodles? My gosh, I feel confident that these are the best udon noodles I’ve had in Toronto. The noodles were chewy and gloriously thick.

*MeNami noodles are always made fresh!!!

Bastille Day with Ladurée

For France’s Independence Day, Bastille Day, Ladurée released special Bastille Day macarons in the vanilla flavour. Obviously, I had to stop by to pick up a few. As always, they were delectable. Their macarons are the best. I hope they release more special macarons to mark French celebrations.

I first wrote about Ladurée when they initially opened here in Toronto; read here.

Colette Grand Café for Summerlicious 2019

For this year’s summerlicious, I chose to dine at Colette Grand Café in Yorkdale Mall.

Smokey Corn Chowder

I ordered this light savoury soup as my appetizer. It had roasted pepper, corn salsa and fresh herbs.

They gave me a generous amount which I appreciated. Often, many restaurants are quite stingy during summerlicious/winterlicious. I was delighted to discover that Colette does not fall into that group.

Maison Burger

Picture unavailable as I was so hungry that I immediately chomped down on this burger and forgot to take a snap. It had bacon, sweet relish mayo, aged white cheddar, lettuce, tomato and pickle.

I enjoyed it, but I removed the pickles. I prefer to eat pickles on their own as I’m not a fan of the way they make everything taste acidic.

Although I didn’t get a photo of the burger, I did get one photo of the area we were sitting in. I snapped it right before guests were seated there.

Banana Bread Pudding and Earl Grey Tea

The banana bread pudding had rum raisin, dark chocolate, vanilla mascarpone and crème anglaise. It was so yummy. My mouth is watering just thinking back on it. I simultaneously sipped on a cup of earl grey tea; it was the perfect pairing.

I also want to mention to that the service at Colette Grand Café is impeccable.

MeNami (Again)

For the second time in July, my friends and I made our way back to MeNami.

Spicy Salmon Tartaré

This tartaré had fresh salmon, deep fried wonton skin, black sesame, habanero oil and tortilla chips. It was flavoursome, and I definitely think I’ll order it again the next time I go. I think it’s great as a light snack too.

Seafood Yaki Udon

This dish consists of squid rings, green onions, shrimp, squid tentacles, mussels, mayonnaise and sweet soy sauce.

It was brought to me piping hot and I savoured each and every single bite. It was so SO so good. This is another must try dish when visiting MeNami.

The Alley

Bubble tea is amazing. I was introduced to it about a year after moving to Canada. There are so many different places to get bubble tea but a favourite of mine is The Alley for sure.

I got a classic milk tea with tapioca. My friends are far more courageous and open to experimenting than I am with their drinks. I don’t recall what they ordered but I remember we are all so happy that afternoon. Especially after we all got our bubble tea and sat outside the store chatting and drinking.

And there you have it. All of my favourite meals and drinks from the month of July.

Till next time,

Arisa
